This oil painting shows the picturesque rural landscape of Ukraine in the 18th - 19th centuries. We see a traditional white Ukrainian hut under a thatched roof, surrounded by a low wooden fence. By the fence is a blooming cherry tree, everything around is decorated with bright spring flowers. A girl in Ukrainian national costume walks along the path from the house. The foremost Ukrainian poet and artist Taras Shevchenko described the way of life of the Ukrainian village in his poems: "A cherry orchard by the house. Above the cherries beetles hum. The plowmen plow the fertile ground And girls sing songs as they pass by".
