Spring Poppies

I don't remember where I took this picture, but it was somewhere in southern Arizona. The flowers are the famous Mexican poppies (or California poppies if you prefer). The tall cactus is a saguaro. Saguaros have edible fruit; it is very delicious. The Tohono O'odham Indians harvest them with long sticks derived from saguaro skeletons, in a ceremony in early July. They are then used for various kins of food. I like them right off the cactus. So do the birds, and they usually beat me to it. © Pat Goltz Thank you for your comments. I greatly appreciate them!
