Sunset Crater in August

Sunset Crater is a well known landmark in northern Arizona. In this photo, it is the highest rounded mound, on the left. This photo was taken from a place just north of Flagstaff. Major wildflower blooms in the area occur in August. Sunset Crater is a cinder cone. It last erupted in the 11th century. The tall plant just to the right of Sunset Crater is mullein, an herb which is useful to soothe irritated respiratory tracts. The stalk is the flower stalk. The flowers remain sparse on the stalk and are yellow in color. I don't know what the yellow flowers behind the mullein are. © Pat Goltz Thank you for your comments. I greatly appreciate them!
