pretty in braids

This is a shy and sweet little girl that I got to know. Most of the time she giggled and smiled, and whispered to her firends. She loved to watch me draw, and sat to learn how to do her own work next to me. She particulary loved flowers. She became quite good at drawing roses. I did her portrait using refrence phots, she's much too shy to stand me sketching her. I used my wacom tablet & pen and used both Painter Classic and IX to complete this portriat. I used lots of layers of airbrush - to paint the main colors first, layering the mulit-tones of skin, and blended these to get rid of brush marks, adding in highlights and details. It's not airbrushed as in retouched photos, it's airbrush as in spraying paint. I often to layers of pastels, even watercolor, to get the soft look, by mixing medias & blending with water to get the smoother look.

This looks like a photo. You did a great job Terry!

Artist Reply: Thak you Eveyn! I did this one a few years ago when I was learning to do portraits. I have improved with practice & better art software. I did use photo referrences to study her face and details better. I love that I can do more realistic work when I digitally paint. It's easier for me to correct or rework something that I need to to get a beeter result.

Nice work Terry. She has a sweet smile and you did a nice job with the details of her denim and pose.

Artist Reply: Thank you Maddison! She was a bit shy, as she tends to be. She gave me a cute pose to work with. I liked the way this one came out. THe denium was a fun fabric to do. Fabrics can be a pain, but I tend to often soften them to draw more focus to the face. In this one, I wanted the look of the jeans to add to it, but softend the metal hooks on the straps.
