PASSION

ODE TO GEORGIA

Quote Georgia O'Keeffe
(1887—1986)
"I decided that if I could paint that flower in a huge scale, you could not ignore its beauty."

To paint like her is to understand her suggestive play between delicate shafts of light and shadow. You become one with her passion for revealing illuminations.

This semester I'm taking an oil paint class at the Academy: " PAINT LIKE THE MASTERS" and
Georgia O' Keeffe is one of the masters.
I just love her passionate art work.

Georgia O'Keeffe -one of the great modern U.S. artists- was a painter known for her unique, individualistic style.
Her work is sensual ~evoking the sense of the subject of the painting~ and somehow both realistic and abstract.

For years people have been seeing all kinds of things in O'Keeffe's flowers: they're erotic and sensual for sure!
O'Keeffe admits there is reason for her flowers and landscapes to be considered as symbols of the unconscious.

She says of her flower paintings:
"I am attempting to express what I saw in a flower which apparently others failed to see."

She is chiefly known for paintings in which she synthesized abstraction and representation in paintings of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones and landscapes.
Her paintings present crisply contoured forms that are replete with subtle tonal transitions of varying colors.
She often transformed her subject matter into powerful abstract images.
