Twilight Tulips

It's been a while since I took time to paint some tulips. I do love the shape, the color blends and how the flower slowly opens to bloom. I have a number of new works planned for tulips and by next year hope to have a garden planted with lots of varieties of tulips to enjoy. This is a digital painting done with an electronic drawing tablet, a Wacom. It uses a wireless pen stylus that you tap and move across the tablet, not a computer mouse. I used Corel's art software, Painter X that allows you to choose the brush sizes, shapes, textures, mediums, colors, flow, etc. as you would make personal choices with the real mediums. This is not a photo manipulation or a result from an auto convert a photo to an artistic effect work. I had to draw and paint this. It takes me hours of work, just no clean up time. If you look at the close up you will see the brush strokes, it's not a photo. I hope you like this tulip beauty.

Artist Reply: Thanks Debbie! I so love painting tulips! They have lovely shaped blossoms, a great range of colors, and I love the buds to a full wide open bloom. More to come by the weekend.

ohw my... i really had to look very carefully... thought it was a picture... but you painted it ...... so so beautyfull!!!

Artist Reply: Thanks Blue Doll! I love blending colors to get the realistic look in my paintings. Lots of mixtures in the flowers help mak the results look more real. Usually I do the background flowers with less detail & blending so that you focus on a few flowers that have the realistic look. I painted the tulip with one layered group of colors. Then added a second and third layer of colors , each time sofly blending them and making sure the details stay enough. I readd at the end the highlights I need to make them pop, and blend those as well so not to have too hard of lines. Seems I blend more than paint, but it gets the results I want. I'm not using layers like in photo shop, stacking and merging. I just work on the same work in stages. I save often in case I'm experimenting or not to lose all the work I have in progress.
