Tugboats and Tenaments

This is one of my very early watercolors and was created just before I started putting my work into galleries. These early gems were all 18x 24 inches and sold quickly. I was encouraged to do large 30x 40 inch paintings primarily of American urban landscapes. These early watercolors were all fantasy scenes. I discontinued these fantasy scenes because some people were convinced that they knew exactly where these scenes were and that they had indeed been there and I could not convince them otherwise. A number of others were became greatly annoyed and felt duped. I thought it wise that I refrain from alienating my potential following, that I immerse myself in recreating history. It satisfied my need to pursue what had always been my favorite academic subject in school which was history. I also loved the detective work that was involved in researching various city scenes. I hope you enjoy these works as much as I loved creating them.
