Detroit Michigan: The Waterfront ca. 1890

Here is more progress on the drawing. I am trying to get the size of the objects in the street to proper scale. I have made corrections to the S.A. Munger sign, and have added to the far right side of the painting. I am also beginning the difficult process of picking up and drawing the details of the buildings on the right side (east side) of the street. Also dealing with the perspective and the slight rise in elevation the further you get from the Detroit River. This was also a big problem to figure out in the San Francisco Market St. ca. 1941 painting. I will solve the problem in part by using people and horse drawn wagons and street cars to break up and obscure the bottoms of the buildings as you look up Woodward Avenue.

I am already getting anxious to see color in this beauty! You have such patience with your preparatory sketches! Marvelous design and drawing. I do not have that kind of patience, so I guess that is why I tend to be an impressionist .... :-)
