The Station Fire: La Canada-Flintridge, CA

Of all the forces of nature, I fear brush fires more than anything, and this picture says it all. I took this as I left the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center with my cell phone camera. The Rose Bowl Stadium is behind the stand of trees just to the left of center. and in the center of the photograph off in the distance is the Jet Propulsion Laboratory which is obsured by the smoke from the fires.

excellent comp. The clouds make the photo!

Artist Reply: Actually Maureen, those are not clouds, that is smoke coming directly from the fire. For the whole time of the fire there was not a cloud in the sky. That towering cloud you see is smoke from the fire as it was surrounding the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in La Canada-Flintridge and the Altadena area. The whole mountain range caught fire and those fires raged for over two weeks.

perfect shot Wow!!

Artist Reply: Thanks, but the really great shot can be found going east on Colorado Blvd just be for you get to the world famous Arroyo Bridge that spans the Arroyo Seco. for about 150 feet you have a perfectly framed shot with the the Arroyo Bridge with its beautiful gossamer structure in the foreground framing fire with the mountains as a back drop. It is just stunningly beatiful. I hope I can get it tomorrow.

Wow.... too close for comfort. Brush fires can just overtake and consume all in their path. Was this fire put out safely and soon?

Artist Reply: It is 3:51 PM and the La Canada fire is still burning out of control and is progressing to the west and as of last night it was approaching the town of Acton to the north on the opposite side of the San Raphael Mountains.
