Rim Trail at Mud Mt. Dam

This trail begins just outside of a wonderful park maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers. The true purpose of this place is to control the White River, via a huge earthen dam, from flooding a large very populated valley down river. Many large cities and industrial areas would be devistated almost yearly without these controls. The Corps also maintains this property as a recreational area for hiking, biking, horseback and some RV-ing....and of course a large picnic/playground area. The 2-mile Rim Trail is used by many locally as a close get-away into the forest above the river. Here you encounter a variety of natures treasures as you hike this moderate trail, from thick stands of alder, cottonwood and maple to large cedars and douglas fir and even venture thru a large swamp. Hope you enjoy the short, but very enjoyable hike that we did this past weekend.... :-)

Cedars are unique in that they are the same except for where they happen to grow and that seems to effect trunk growth and height. Neat looking place!
