My favourite part about this painting was seeing the face and personality emerge from nothing - but then it can't possibly have come from nothing, it must have come from something in me at that time. Which only lends more mystery to it every time I look at it: "Who or what is he?" can actually only be "Who or what am I?" This also transfers to what the viewer sees, prompting the question: "Who - or what - are you?"
