Pineapples grow abundantly in Jamaica and other Caribbean islands. The earliest record of pineapples in the Caribbean was in 1493 on the island of Guadeloupe, on Columbus' second voyage to the West Indies. Because of its resembelance to a pine cone, the Spanish called the fruit "pina". The island of Antigua produces the Black Pineapple. The skin is green, a dark green, but the taste is just as sweet and succulent as those with orange-yellow or golden skins
