Self Portrait

Johnnie was born and raised in southern Mississippi and Louisiana, the only boy of six children. He worked as a brick and stone mason for 16 years, never having any interest in the art world, never visiting any art galleries or museums, nor meeting any artists. During the winter of 2004, he had an injury that forced him to give up his career. One day soon after, he inexplicable and unexpectedly started gathering objects from around his home - discarded pieces of lumber, cardboard, house and spray paint, crayons, markers, etc. - and started creating pieces of art. Since that time, Johnnie has devoted himself to learning all there is to know about art and developing his own style. He works tirelessly and joyously every day creating, pushing himself, digging deeper to hopefully create a meaningful body of work to share with others. His art has now been acquired by collectors from North Carolina, down to Mississippi and Louisiana, to Arizona and southern California. His current collection includes drawings, acrylics, found objects, and collage. Johnnie's mission is to share the joy and enthusiam he feels creating his art with those who choose to view it. Thank you for your interest and please feel free to contact him for any comments, questions, or discussion.
