Self Portrait

Michelle Horvath is an emerging artist working in dry mediums, such as pencil, conté, charcoal, and pastels. She has branched from her early wildlife drawings into a love of drawing people. Michelle grew up in St. Brieux, a rural community in Saskatchewan, Canada. Here, she experienced the beauty and serenity of nature, which would later influence not only her art but also her approach to art and life. From an early age she was an avid drawer and after graduating from high school she studied fine art at St. Peter's College, an affiliate of the University of Saskatchewan. Michelle decided to return home to St. Brieux where she became the curator for the St. Brieux Museum. She is now actively touring Saskatchewan and has been drawing commissioned portraits for a few years. In 2005 Michelle won the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association's Reflections of Patience Lake Purchase Award for her drawing of "Sandpipers". She was also commissioned by Bourgault Industries to create an original pencil drawing of their machinery for use in promotional materials. The rural lifestyle has proven once again to be the perfect setting for her art to grow.
