I have loved art and music since childhood. My parents were very encouraging and supportive of my artistic inclinations, and there has always been an artistic sensibility as far back as I can remember. As a result, I went to study at York University for a Bachelor of Fine Arts followed by Sheridan College for a diploma in Computer Graphics. After working as a senior artist creating greeting cards and oil paintings, I began my own career as a full-time artist. I presently work from my home studio in Richmond Hill and am happily married to my wonderful and supportive husband Brent.
My work is inspired by the beauty of nature, specifically, the details often overlooked in the fruits and flowers that grace my daily life. In our fast-paced world, it is all too easy to filter out most of the fine detail in our surroundings as we focus on our daily activities. I believe a successful painting draws our attention and allows for a careful and thorough study of the subject presented. From the shiny glow of a seed studded strawberry to the dimpled peel of a tart lemon, the essence of each object is portrayed. Bathed in summers warm sunshine, arrangements are brought to life whereby the interplay of light and shadow creates drama. Expressed with a bold colour palette familiar objects are suspended in time, awaiting the viewer to complete the experience.
What motivates me to painting is simple; its' e rgue to create that doesnt leave me alone. Painting often becomes an obsessive passion, consuming all of my energy and thoughts until a piece is completed. For me, painting is a necessity of life, like breathing, fueled by my desire. Each piece holds a special place in my heart because of the pure joy resulting from its creation. It is my objective as an artist to lift the spirits, to reflect the beauty of life. It is my talent to capture through painting, the wonders of Gods creation around me.
