PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES PERSONAL STATEMENT As an artist I strive to convey the emotion, impact, and response I feel from a particular subject. I translate this using strong values, tones, and compositional balance. I derive complete satisfaction when these all aspects come together. This is why I love to create.

PROCESS I enjoy working in many different mediums. I especially like to experiment with combining these mediums to achieve strong value and color balance. I like to work from life and often start my process of creating there. I then fine-tune my work in the studio.

BIOGRAPHY I always felt the need to create. I grew up in Rhode Island as the oldest of four children. I enjoyed entering art, photography, and dance competitions throughout the first 17 years of my life. When it came to choosing what I would study in college, I felt I choose the practical path, but not the one that would be my true path. I met my husband in college and we got married. After graduation, his job then took us to Japan. It was there we had our first son. The experience of the culture and new family brought a renewed passion to paint and draw.

In 1987, we move to Durham, NC. I worked as a therapist while having two more boys. Having three boys has been an amazing adventure that I continuously enjoy. As the children grew, so did the moments I could spend on my art. In 1996 I spent a lot of time painting, exhibiting, selling and teaching art. I decided to open Rushingwater Studios to offer workshops and classes for adults and children as well as fine art and commission work. The studio flourishes till this day and I know it is because I am doing what I was meant to do… and what I love to do.
