COMPUTERS

Over the past few years I have developed a relationship with my computer. I relish the early morning hours when the house is quiet and I can boot up my friend and cruise around my favorite haunts. Learning Adobe Photoshop has been an ever evolving maze of surprises. I am self taught and often have figured things out by accidentally clicking on something I didn't mean to click. It's like an "Oh WoW" moment that happens as I wonder in amazement at what that unfamiliar tool just created! I have plenty of tutorial books, but somehow it seems more fun to learn "by accident." What did I do before computers??? Hmmm

HUNKERING DOWN

I feel myself hunkering down again for winter just around the corner. It feels like a cocoon enveloping me as I watch the sea of leaves raining down from the trees surrounding us. The beautiful fall colors of orange, red, burgundy, golds, and everything in between still dazzle the eye but soon will abandon the trees until next spring. Light pouring through the bare limbed trees is our only source of comfort until color bursts through again. I will wait patiently.

THANKSGIVING

With Thanksgiving around the corner it's an opportunity to remind myself of how many things in my life I truly have to be grateful for. At the top of the list are people in my life---my family, including the furry critters I consider family, loyal and steadfast friends, health, the gift of creativity, & the gift of hope most of all, even in the midst of uncertainty about what lays ahead.

A big Thank You to all of my AW "friends" for visiting my gallery and commenting on my work. It means a lot to me.

I've been getting work ready for an upcoming art show in the area. This past year I really became hooked on making jewelry. I had made attempts in the past but was never satisfied with the results, but for some reason the jewelry goddess decided to help me out with a bit of inspiration and I started coming up with some very unique necklace pieces. This art show is the first time I will have shown my pieces to a larger audience.

AW HAUNTED HOUSE....

Since the AW Haunted House Gallery opened I have been getting a lot of visits to my gallery especially to the images I entered into the Haunted House exhibit, but not very many comments ( considering the amount of visits). Hmm, interesting.....

This is a folk art image of Jonah's Whale. The original was painted with acrylics.

Woke up to the sound of good hard rain falling on the roof. Curled up in bed a bit longer than usual and just enjoyed the steady soothing rhythm. These days we all need to find respite from the angst we wake up to everyday. What other catastrophe awaits us we wonder? Let us hope we all can find release in positive ways from the fear we are presently being subjected to by those who lord and rule over us in our governments & institutions. Keep making art, even if no one can spend money buying it! This is a paper doll collage I created of my friend Carole Ann. Carole Ann is an endearing and talented artist and is very supportive of my art as well. We all need friends like Carole Ann!

This is a wonderful book about Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos traditional celebrations in Mexico. I highly recommend it to any Muertos enthusiasts or if you want to familiarize yourself a bit more with this beautiful honoring of the departed. The book is called The Skeleton At The Feast, by Elizabeth Carmichael & Chloe Sayer.

Well, I am just blown away by the AW Haunted House Gallery! For a Halloween & Day of the Dead junkie like myself you couldn't ask for more. Amazing variety of art from the darkside! I will be cruising the dark alleys of that misty ethereal world beyond for eternity (well at least until the Haunted House Gallery is up this month!)

We all long to be truly heard and seen, but how rare is it to find someone with the capacity to offer this gift to us. We are mysteries to each other, catching only fleeting glimpses of our true natures. It takes time and willingness to sit with a spouse, friend, child or even a stranger to listen to what is compelling them to speak at the moment. It takes even more discipline not to interject our own interpretations of what they are converying. Often as artists we witness others interpret our work in ways we perhaps did not intend---sometimes we learn something about ourselves, other times we are left confounded about how could someone have read something into that work that clearly isn't there? That is how relationships often play themselves out as well.
