Self Portrait

Born in East Germany where she was raised and was an avid student of art throughout her youth. As an eight-year-old child during the hostilities of World War II, the family home was spared from bomb destruction by only twenty kilometers. Virtually the entire city of Magdenburg was destroyed while the family members huddled safely in the cellar of their home. In 1959. Emma immigrated to the United States where in 1962 she applied for admission to the Art Institute of Minnesota. Upon acceptance her studies centered on commercial art, for her a new field of study. She graduated in 1965 with a degree in advertising and related art. A resident of Virginia and an American Citizen since 1964,Emma has been a teacher and prolific painter in oils for many years. Her works have been displayed in numberous settings and galleries including: The Petersburg Art Festival, The Jewish Community Center, The Westhampton Theater, The Bank of Virginia, The Blue Cross of Virginia Building, The Valentine Museum all of Virginia, and in Magdenburg and Haldensleben D.D.R. (East Germany). Her most impressive work is a magnificent 10x14 foot mural of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in the sanctuary of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia, completed in 1969.
