Samuel McCain Artist, Oil Painter
I am a resident of Ridgeland, Mississippi. I have been a resident of Mississippi since 1986, after my father retired from the Navy.
I began my artistic odyssey around the age of 4. My parents recognized my gift at an early age. Many times I could be found drawing and sketching by myself while the rest of the family was busy doing other things. Even today, l can be found painting when I am not spending time with my family or working.
My artistic ability has been recognized for much of my life. I began to be recognized as the Artist of the Month once or twice a year from 1st to 6th grade at Shelton Park Elementary in Virginia Beach, VA. I have also won the city arts festival in Greenwood, MS in the late 80's at Davis Middle School also located in Greenwood, MS.
I continued to receive recognition in my collegiate years as well. I won the freshman art award at the Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) in Moorhead, MS, in 1997. I also won the Merit award in an art show at Jackson State University in 2005. My artwork was featured in a forty piece exhibit at the Municipal Art Gallery for the entire month of August, 2008. The Municipal Art Gallery named me as the Artist of the Month during my exhibit. I also received the Best in Show and a Third place ribbon at The Mississippi Arts Center July 12th, 2009 in the Annual Juried Art show held and organized by the Mississippi Artist Guild. Just recently, June 2011 I was commissioned to do art for Bunsei Kure (CEO, President, and Director) for Calsonic Kansei (Nissan Supplier). I also have a featured story about my artwork in The Jackson Free Press (Vol.10, No.23 February 15-21, 2012. Most (Oct. 9 2012-Dec. 30, 2012) recently I was the featured artist at the Grand Reopening of the Smith Robertson Museum.
I describe my art work/ paintings as afro centric/contemporary art with vibrant prism burst as background for concrete or abstract subject matters in my paintings.
