I am a "reverse" artist: I think and work opposite of normal. I start with a black surface and paint in my lights. Since early childhood I was very aware that reality itself begins with the Void, out of which Matter arises. The stars and planets are framed with the dark of space. Day arises out of night, but the shadows still model otherwise flat forms into three-dimensional ones...I always think of dimensions when I paint and draw, and of the importance of the interplay of light and dark, which together form Contrast. My secret is to utillize the full spectrum from pure white to pure black in each and every image. This yields a life-like, sculptural impact.
