Self Portrait

“I commissioned Audra to do a portrait of my aunt after her passing, using paints. She captured her better than the photograph I provided for her. I was impressed with how quickly she was able to complete it and she captured all the smallest details of her in depth. I was blown away by her painting skills and her ability to get her personality to shine through. Her memorial with the art piece is an honor to receive and we cherish it as a family.” Amy Williams

“Re: Audra Barton, Artist

To Whom It May Concern:

I have had the honor and privilege of knowing Audra Barton my entire life. In the simplest of terms Audra is an artist- and has been pretty much her entire life. But, the term ‘artist’ barely captures the amazing skill she possesses. When she was only in high school she created art well above the skill level of her peers, winning countless art awards along the way. As a young girl, I would sit and watch her work to perfect her craft. For hours upon hours, I watched her paint the most beautiful portraits on some of the most unique canvases- emu eggs, peacock and turkey feathers, saw blades and stones. If there is one thing you should know about her it is that creativity and art pour from her mind and heart in ways you wouldn’t even imagine. As an adult, Audra has had the opportunity to hone her craft through higher education, studying art at the university.

Audra has an extensive portfolio that includes a variety of art styles including portraits, landscapes, murals, and abstract art. I have seen her create art using a variety of mediums including water color and oil points, pastels, charcoal, pencil, colored pencil and mixed media.

Audra has a servant heart and has used her passion and craft to benefit others. She is the creator of ‘Love in Motion’, a project developed to donate portrait art to families who have lost a loved one. She has donated countless hours of work for portraits to families, including many that were victims of the Joplin tornado. I feel privileged to have seen the joy these gifts bring to the families that receive them. Portraits are a gift that become an heirloom, something to cherish for a lifetime and beyond. Anyone who receives them celebrates the memories it brings. I’d like to offer a couple of examples in how Audra makes her portraits special. For one family Audra used multiple different photographs to create a collage painting of a mother and her son, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident. In another, Audra created a portrait, using photographs of a great-grandmother who never had the opportunity to meet her great-granddaughter, but throughout her creativity she made a portrait where the two were joined together, with the little girl on the grandmother’s lap.

I encourage you to pursue her art and become aware of the talent she possesses. It is a gift that she will continue to share with the community for as long as she is able.

Signed, an awe-struck younger cousin,

Mendy Nash”
