Curriculum Vitae:Fine Artist & Sculptor,Designer,Graphic & Heraldic Artist,Photographer and Writer. Fred Rousseau was born in Wynberg,Cape Province,South Africa during 1943.(Prior to the year 2006 Fred signed his artworks as Fred Rossouw,but now signs as Fred Rousseau(agae).He comes from a traditionally artistic family and is a descendant of Daniël Piérre Rousseau of Menars-la Vielle,North-East of Blois in France. Since a very youthful age he developed an interest in art and design although initially it would not be his fulltime career.He has a keen interest and passion for veld and animal life due to the fact that his father did geological work and his grandfather was a forester.He has an in-depth feeling and inspiration for Africa.As a youngster he accompanied his father on frequent excursions into the bush,acquiring an infinite knowledge of his subject matter.His empathy with Earth,Nature (especially wildlife) were the constant inspiration for his paintings.Fred has always been fascinated by animal life and concerned about conservation.He has travelled extensively throughout Africa and became interested in the diverse flora and fauna and the cultures and traditions. Fred studied Fine Arts at the Rondebosch Art School,Cape Town under the late Professor Alfred Frederic Krenz and Art and Design at the Tygerberg Technical College. During 1989 Fred turned his back on some twenty years of career at the University of Stellenbosch to take up which has always been his first love-Painting! Devoting all his time to art Fred is now an acknowledged artist,especially for wildlife and ethnic art,in both realistic and surrealistic genre. During 1990 Fred, as a devoted conservationist,launched a project in collaboration with the department of Nature and Environmental Conservation to ensure the future of the Cape Mountain Zebra.He donated an original painting and its copyright (one thousand individually numbered and signed prints) to raise funds for the project which also included the establishment of an outdoor facility for environmental education.This project was sponsored and advertised by corpotate company Sanlam. Apart from being represented in innumarable private collections,his work is also included in many corporate collections such as Sanlam and MossGas.During 2002 the South African Army assigned Fred to do a series of oil paintings on all ethnic groups of Southern Africa.Amongst many,Fred undertook assignments for the Central News Agency(CNA),the Development Bank of SA and Eskom.Fred's name was linked to the Third International Wildlife Ranching Symposium held at the CSIR Conference Centre in Pretoria SA during 1992. Fred developed a project Save the Children as a result of his concern for children in disadvantaged areas such as Soweto,Johannesburg, where there was a desperate need to feed and uplift the children.After some talks with the local children and discerning their need for education and economic empowerment the first lesson got on its way right there on the pavement.This was the beginning of Fred and a group of artists giving informal classes to various communities in Gauteng,SA teaching how to depict symbols of culture,folklore,animals and its environment ensuring that African Heritage be recorded for future generations. The Department of Economic Development & Tourism selected Fred as one of the top visual artists from the Western Cape SA to participate in their Visual Arts SMME support program during 2010. Fred has painted many wellknown personalities in the fields of education,defence and government and have exhibited both locally as well as overseas (Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,and London jointly with the works of Credo Mutwa,December 1996).Last mentioned exhibition toured various venues in the United Kingdom and United States of America.Participated in the Exhibition of Living Symbols of Africa at the Absa Bank Gallery during 1997.Fred was also involved in a project with Credo Mutwa,"An introduction to the Living Symbols of Africa". Fred is a versatile artist,few of who can capture the Spirit of Africa,whether it be oi;s with finely applied layers of oil paints,or water colours with amazingly fine detail.He is also capable of working in any media such as pencil,inks,pastels,sculpture,graphic and heraldic art and won various awards for photography.His landscapes and seascapes have vibrant colours,rocks,clouds or the drama of an unfolding thunderstorm over a Bushveld panorama.His oils are noted for their meticulously detailed execution.He constantly strives for perfection,aspecially with wildlife,and therefore gives much attention to detail. Fred has written articles on art,wildlife and conservation. Fred's major concern is for wildlife and the environment and feels it is a responsibility that every artist should regard seriously. His vision and mission is to find an international or national sponsor to make it possible for him to devote all his time to art tuition and skills training.His dream is to teach people,especially the youth.with inherent talent, how to depict art across the fields of culture,folklore,the rich diversity of Southern Africa flora and fauna recording our heritage for future generations/Lastly to ensure that our carbon footprints become less and smaller.
