"Red Heifer" is a watercolour painting by professional artist Brazen Edwards-Hager. I was involved in an Art Show at the Kelowna Public Art Gallery entitled "Marking Identity" and was inspired to paint an image from my childhood. It's an illustrative piece, meant to invoke a sense of fun, light hearted view on being a prairie girl in Alberta. My Grandparents had a farm on Jackfish Lake that was a place of fond memories, being down at the barn petting all the newborn cows and naming each and every one of them. The symbolism of cows is nourishment, motherhood, power of Earth, plenty, procreation, gentleness, nurturing. A cow is sacred to many religions due to it's non-violence and does not posses an evil nature.
