I had a photograph of my family walking up the hill at my parents’ house in New Brunswick while at the annual family BBQ my parents held. It was the last time my sister would attend. It struck me as a deeply powerful image of togetherness and family and how we all pull together in the toughest of times. I wanted to paint it to represent all families in all walks of life, any nationality and any religion. This was our journey, our strength and our love for each other.
