In growing up on the Panama Canal Zone, we had lots of picnics at Summit Gardens; family picnics, Brownie and Girl Scout picnics, my Freshman Class picnic of which I was chairman, church group picnics, school picnics, etc. The waterlily pond and bridge that you see here was a favorite spot and photographed lots. There were gold fish, guppies, and frogs in this pond which extends as large on the other side of the bridge as on this side. Summit Gardens is actually a botanical garden with over 15,000 different kinds of tropical plants. Yes, it was built by the United States over 80 years ago. It was founded by the Panama Canal Company in 1923. There is now a zoo there too. I hope you enjoy!
