Mercury Rising

Mercury, Latin: Mercurius is a major Roman god, being one of the Dii Consentes within the ancient Roman pantheon. He is the patron god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld. Mercury had essentially the same aspects as Hermes, wearing winged shoes (talaria) and a winged hat (petasos), and carrying the caduceus, a herald's staff with two entwined snakes that was Apollo's gift to Hermes. This is a piece I did for the "Ten-by- Fotolia" competition. Learned a lot and was so much fun to do. It did not win, was probably not mainstream enough - even though I thought "girl-with-wing-on-heads" is such a mainstream topic over here that it at least has a chance... However, that was the best piece I could get out of the stock images they´ve given out to use. (At least 3 had to be used) The rest of the used stock is from my own and fractals rendered in Mandelbulb3d. Photoshop, Cintiq, 15 hours.
