This colored pencil painting is entitled "Light in the Attic" and consists of items that were passed down to us from my grandmother Carrie who was born in 1885. They were stored in the dark corners of our attic in 1980 for varying lengths of time and almost forgotten. Then one by one they found their way to various places in our home where we could enjoy them. Certainly not every day, but I do sometimes stop and reflect on the history they represent to me through my grandmother. Where did each item come from and why did she keep it? What did it mean to her? I know that each of you have antique items in your home that cause you to wonder about the stories behind them as well. I wanted to share the items of my grandmother with you through this still life. I arranged the items, played with the lighting and then photographed them. This painting is based on that photograph and is done on Grafix drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and Marshall pencils. The size of the artwork is 11 x 14 inches.
