Nighttown - Monto This painting suggests the brothel run by Bella Cohen in the red light district of Dublin where Stephen Dedalus broke the light and Leopold Bloom was asked for ten shillings by way of compensation. The women depicted are Florry and Zoe. The images are after Alberti. This painting depicts the whores Bella, Florrie, Zoe and friends in the Bordello run by Bella Cohen in the red light district of Dublin in the early part of the 20th century. They were sometimes referred to as the coal quay whores. The brothel was visited by Stephen Dedalus and Leopold Bloom in Ulysses. I painted this original watercolor painting in Spain in January 2005.
