  Kosmic Krusader

A thought popped into my head recently when I lived in LA in the early 1980s. I wondered what happened to that turban-wearing busker on skates wielding a Strat guitar, careening around the boardwalk. With a tiny amplifier strapped to his belt, he shreds on his Hendrix-fuzz-sounding guitar, commanding an undeniable presence. When I googled a description of this anonymous street performer, I was astonished to see his information on Wikipedia, national publications, IMDb, and movie appearances. Harry Perry was his name and he has performed around Venice since 1973. He also fought City Hall and won the fight against banning street musicians and vendors. It brought a smile to think this colorful character who played with the Grateful Dead is still going strong in his seventies. My painting is a tribute to him and my youthful days in LA.
