Inversion of Release from the Power of Dark Archetypes #1

This collage consists of two of my artworks - a pencil drawing "Medea" (2000) and an oil painting "Eleven suns" (2022). The drawing was changed in color - the gray graphite tone became bluish. In the painting, the color balance was also adjusted. The life-affirming color scheme became extremely ominous, conveying the tension of the episode depicted in the collage. The dragon guarding the Golden Fleece trustingly flies to Medea, unaware that she is going to put it to sleep with her herbs. Now her beloved, the Argonaut Jason, will be able to steal the desired artifact. Medea is decisive and straightforward in her intentions, although viewer can detect a slight excitement in her facial expressions. The dragon's flight creates a wind that makes the curls of her hair sway. The combination of two contrasting techniques helped to convey the dramatic character of the heroine of ancient Greek mythology and the plot moment. In this myth, I was attracted by its exoticism compared to later European ones. In such legends The hero needs to perform a feat to free the princess from the dragon. From the point of view of psychoanalysis, this is a reflection of the need to tear the female subconscious from the shackles of dark archetypes. Here, everything happens somehow differently. From the point of view of men, such a concept will probably seem much more acceptable to them - due to its zero labor intensity and reverse distribution of responsibilities.
