Cascading Waters | Humpback Whale Tail in Maui

**Cascading Waters — A Humpback Whale's Final Moment Above the Surface** As a humpback whale begins its descent beneath the Pacific Ocean, its enormous tail rises above the surface, sending streams of seawater cascading from the edges of its fluke. For a brief moment, the dark shape of the whale's tail contrasts against the brilliant white turbulence below, while the surrounding ocean remains remarkably calm. Humpback whales return to Hawaiian waters each winter, where their surface behaviors offer extraordinary opportunities to observe and photograph these magnificent marine mammals. What captured my attention in this photograph was the movement of the water. The delicate streams falling from the whale's tail create an almost waterfall-like effect, revealing a beautiful detail that can easily disappear in an instant.
