This painting in soft pastel was from the still life last night in studio using artificial high contrast light. This particular piece is a little smaller than most of the still lifes I have done recently in pastel, at only 12" x 9". It was challenging to work that small for the flowers. Perhaps because of the smaller size of the piece, this painting is more about color and composition and came out a bit more abstract than the others of this series. I was trying to concise down the shapes as much as possible and focus mostly on form, color, hinting at light and shadow.
