Fossil Beds 3

This is a shot of Hagerman Valley. Idaho is known mostly for its fossils from the late Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs. Perhaps the best known of these fossils is the Hagerman horse, scientifically named Equus simplicidens. Hagerman has one of the worlds richest known deposits of fossil horses and this fossil horse is thought to be a link between prehistoric and modern horses. In 1988, the Hagerman horse became Idahos state fossil and Hagerman Fossil Beds became a national monument.
