Well, this is basically my first shot at a still-life. I thought that this year I would do something like this for my Christmas cards. Therefore, any comments would be appreciated. I know nothing about lighting and all that stuff. I took a chance and did it by a window so there was natural light. What is the trick to these kinds of shots?

This is wonderful! You could have very easily blown out the shiny parts of the balls with too much light. There are all kinds of rules for taking indoor shots, for instance there should always be three sources of light but heck, keep doing what you're doing because it works!!
