Artist Reply: which effect? part of it is the paint but the light reflected when i took the picture. it had texture from the wood grain that i couldn't remove, even when i moved the lights around. the painting was done reductively. i painted the background with acrylic and while it was still wet used water to take away the "strokes" that make up the ring and atmospheric/cloudy parts of the background thanks for you comment.
