William Butler Yeats

A pastel chalk portrait rendered on a tan, textured India import paper of the wonderful Irish "poet laureate" William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)....... "How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face"- W.B.Yeats / "When You Are Old"

A wonderful portrait.

I think you did the man a postumous favor. He had a weaker face but I like the portrait. His intentions were stronger than his physique.

I love the pastel techniques on this one, the blue and white give this a cold touch which has an old world european look to it and the face is so regal as well, the pastel paper works really well and you know how to manipulate it and the shadowing is great !!!!!!! fine portrait kathy. Dave

This has a fine raw quality to it-very expressive. "...And hid his face amid a crowd of stars."
