Hummingbird pastel

This is a hummingbird that I painted using my Wacom tablet and stylus pen and Painter IX software. I started with a blank canvas/screen, so it is not a manipulated photo. I used a mix of air brushes, pastels, and blender tools to create this speckled pastel look.

gorgeous art work

Artist Reply: Thank you Cynthia! I will be moving not far from a Hummingbird research, tracking, and rescue couple. I hope to visit and learn more about them, take photo for reference, and donate some art to them to use for funds, as well as to keep for allowing me to visit. I will be going hummingbird nuts then. I love painting hummers.

Lovely digital work - thanks for describing your technique... I always wonder when I see "Digita" - wonder if it's not just a photo-manip. It's great to know it's not - makes it that much more amazing! :)

Artist Reply: Thank you! It's hard on some of my work to tell, as they are shown at smaller sizes to see brush strokes. I also spend alot of time on some, like portraits blending strokes to get a smoother look, more realistic, so that can at times appear manipulated photos. You could conpare how I first started on my begining portrates, such as under "Women" the Nacy portraits I first did with the ones I did recently with her sister Theresa. I have been learning bit by bit how to mix the brushes and tools in art software. I upgraded to more advance programs as well. It takes practice, but it gets easier as you come to know the wacom and stylus/& software. I had first wanted to make it easy and just use photo editing and effects to instanly make art. I didn't like most of the looks, you get weird speckling/lose clarity from pixilation. Couldn't remove it without bluring the whole thing and then useless. So, learn to do it freehand, and usually, may clone a color from a photo if needed, or may adjust brightness or contrast. Other than that, normally don't manipulate unless I list it as such. I like challenging myself, am pleased so far the 3 years I've been doing digital art.

Terry, this is just so marvelous, fantastic work all done from scratch!!! You're a genius artist!

Artist Reply: Goodness, to think I almost didn't post this one! THought sorta childlike in feel. Was trying for a appealing style as may illustrate a hummingbird book for children I have written. I thought this style would be eye catching and maybe use this one. Thanks for such kind words.
