Have Frog, Will Travel

A pause, mentally running through the brief--but pleasant--stay here. But ready to go. Gear is packed, farewells are finished, the frog has had his breakfast, and the staff is in hand... No more to do here. Fond memories of the little hostel, but next leg of the journey awaits.

Black permanent ink and watercolors on 65 lb. Canson sketch paper---wholly unsuitable paper for the abuse I put it through while painting it. The original is about 7 inches by 7.5 inches. Began this in 2004, apparently, according to the work-in-progress posts: black and white, attempt at digitally painting it (yuck), first wash of color, and second wash of color.

I think this came out beautiful! It's very magical! I love it!

Artist Reply: Thanks! I wound up getting myself a tote bag with this on it for my groceries. Seemed appropriate, somehow. *chuckle*

The tree and the woods feel so real. I'd like to live there, excellent =)

Your style is quite unique---very vibrant! This one stood out to me while looking through your site--would love the know the story behind it! :) -Kerra

Artist Reply: Thanks! The vibrancy is a little bit the fault of my trying to make the scan have the same feel as the original, which sort of seems to have slipped into intensifying the color. This had the odd effect of being even more saturated when it was printed in a 2007 calendar published by ellenmillion! (http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/emggroup.php?id=12) I actually don't have a story behind it -- it occurred to me, I painted it, struggling with figuring out the paints I was using on the paper that was hopelessly inappropriate for them *grin*.
