Ares off-guard

I decided it was time to draw my signature character, out of character, for a change. In every other drawing in my gallery at this point, I've always tried to show that he's a pretty tough guy; ready to cut down anybody who gets in his way. But what does he look like when a certain someone somehow slips past that aura of invulnerability? This shows his off-guard side; showing that he is indeed human in spite of how powerful he is. Terra is a very affectionate character. Her childhood friend, Ares, is not. One's a lover, not a fighter, one's a fighter, not a lover. Getting down to the technical aspects, I got some more practice with drawing characters overlapped. (Annoying when you're used to just compositing everyone into position and you can't in this case) This is also the first time I truly worked in full monochrome, not just pulling a few strings and using a couple filters on a previously full color piece. I went for a grayscale scheme to make this scene look more like a manga panel. (I couldn't think of any sound effects that would be appropriate, though. "hug" stretched out behind the two would look pretty cheesy. ) Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to make something much more typical of my style. I somehow just did a whole drawing without somebody holding a weapon...
