the shadow side of the rock really pops out. nice highlighting
Artist Reply: Thanks a million for the kind comment, Paul. This is such a dramatic location thst I really wanted co catch the light on the rock strata :o))
we have a similar spectical off the atlantic coast of canada called the 'flower pots.' there's a hole series of them with outcrops of trees on them that when the tide is in appear to be little islands and when it's out you can go down to the beach and walk through the bases of them. i'm not sure how tall they are but i'd hazzard a guess at about 70 feet (quite the drop in the tidal flow). in the thumbprint of this image it looked like a photo. beautiful work jacki.
Artist Reply: Hi Sheila
Thanks for your kind comments on this and the Roonagh painting. From your description of the "flower pots" it does sound very similar. This outcrop was originally attached by a narrow ledge, leaving an arch underneath. The cliffs here are also vertigo-inducing and the headland is full of "sink-Holes" that reveal the waves eroding beneath. Being a total coward, I sent my husband up to take the photo on which I based this painting!
Great texture diversity in surface features, the waves striking and receding from this rock skyscraper add to the character of the composition. Beautful areas you have around there.
