This very small oil collage
will be part of my exhibit
Once in a while I challenge myself to work on
a
very small collage.
It's wonderful to create an artwork
where the viewer is wondering:
"What
did she paint and what did she glue on?"
Patterns & Shapes
When I plan a collage I try to think how
to
express its mood.
Establishing a pattern
in a collage can be done
by including pieces that repeat shapes.
Repeated shapes, tones and colors all set up
visual rhythms that create a sense of
movement
and encourage the eye to "travel" over the
piece.
The diagonal shapes give a strong tonal
contrast.
"Temperature"
The rich combination
of Burnt Sienna, Orange and Indian Yellow are
definitely adding
a
desired rich feel & soul to this
musical piece.
These "hot" colors give that warm
desired glow and work well together.
To get some harmony in these super warm
colors I
added a small area of "cold" grey, which
balances this
collage out. (Color wheel theory!)
Materials used:
Vintage sheet
music, archival scrap book paper, oil paint,
Matte Medium (my archival glue)
heavy gloss gel, modeling paste.
