The Swamp

After experiencing the driest summer and fall in a long time, this doesn't appear to be much of a swamp....now. But the rainy season is upon us and will most likely last until at least June. The small pockets of water and mud that are there now will cover the large depression in the land and the plank bridges will be the only way to cross the marshy void. In the spring the skunk cabbage will flourish and by summer the whole area will be covered in lush greens that thrive from the abundance of water. A down side to all of this is the mosquitos...bug spray is a must. Another down side is the many large trees that are toppled over in heavy winds due to their shallow root systems. It's all a part of life in the swamp.....

Our swamps here pretty much stay wet all year long. This appears to be quite lush even dry!
