Artist Reply: I don't know. They seemed to be doing this independent of one another (despite how it looks in a few other photos). And generally they do not court until they get to their destination. Anyways, it rather seemed more like stretching out their muscles after doing a good 20 minutes worth of flitting, hovering, hanging upside down dangling to snag the biggest of the apples, and then spreading their feathers to catch the warmest of the late afternoon rays of sun to help keep themselves warm once it went dark.
