beneath the mask

This is an original 24x30 inch acrylic painting. It was inspired by the theory that people can be forced to wear a mask to disguise the real person that they are pretending to be. An individual changes or "masks" their natural personality to conform to social pressures, abuse, and/or harassment. Masking can be strongly influenced by environmental factors such as authoritarian parents, rejection, and emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. An individual may not even know he or she is wearing a mask because it is a behavior that can take many forms

The best masks are invisible, I think. Obviously, this mask does not obscure the beauty of the subject or the beautiful technique. :)
