This is a colored pencil painting that is based on a photograph taken by a marvelously creative woman that I "know" only through the computer and the artist site, artwanted.com. Her name is Marie Jose Laurier. She lives in France; I believe near Paris and I live in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the U.S. We both post on this site and comment on the art we see. Several months ago Marie posted a photograph of an old abandoned hunting lodge nestled on the edge of a woods. I love to paint old buildings and made a comment in passing that this building is exactly the kind of old building that I find so suited to what I enjoy rendering with my colored pencils. Much to my surprise, I received an email from her with the photograph attached and her permission for me to freely use her photograph as the for a painting. Artists are such fine, sharing people! Words often can't fully express the degree of their sharing, but I have full experience it through the actions of Marie Jose Laurier! Thank you, Marie. The story surrounding the creation of this painting that Marie and I share made me think about all the untold stories that this old French hunting lodge holds to this day. I entitled this piece "If Walls Could Talk". It is done on Grafix polyester drafting film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and KOH-NOOR pencils. The size of the artwork is 12 X 18 inches. I hope that it speaks to you as it did to me and also to Marie.
