During the (not so nice) Belgian colonial past in Congo, small steamboats maintained the connection between the Atlantic ocean and the Tanganyika-lake at the other side of the territory (about 4500 km). The last part of the traject to the lake was done by railway. This lake is the second largest, deepest and oldest freshwater lake in the world. The steamboats were builded in Europe and transported, in pieces, to the lake where they were assembled. The watercolor shows one of them, while mooring, in the first part of the 20th century.
