both Perkasie and Sellersville are split by the East Branch of the Perkiomen Creek, in Pennsylvania. Lake Lenape was created between the banks of the Perkiomen... water that backed up behind a dam built above the Main Street Bridge in Sellersville to the Walnut Street Bridge in Perkasie. A widened lake formed where the Pleasant Spring Creek flows into the Perkiomen. In 1936, a narrow strip of an island was formed west of that influx and the following year, a pair of Federal Works Projects Administration (W.P.A.) footbridges, were erected to cross the Perkiomen. Menlo Park (organized in 1892) sat on a ridge above, with a tracked "tobaggan" amusement ride hugging the steep hillside down to the creek. Both Menlo Park and the Lake Lenape Park were developed extensively for a variety of recreational activities; however, over the years just about everything except the twin bridges, a few picnic pavilions and a preserved 1951 Allan Herschell Carousel, have been lost and removed from the parks. I spent a lot of my youth in this area... fishing, ice skating and exploring. These twin suspension bridges remain reasonably conserved and open to the public in much the same appearance as built, with the exception of ADA compliant ramps that have been placed over the steps.
