Chartwell, in Kent England was Sir Winston and Clementine Churchill's family home for over 40 years. They purchased it in 1922 standing in the beautiful English countryside.. They lived there until Winston became Prime Minister just after World War II and moved to No 10 Downing Street in London to manage the War The British National Trust took over the management of the house after his family donated it for all who care to visit the year after Churchill's death at the age of 90 in 1965. The house is as a home, with the rooms and furniture arranged very much as the family used them throughout the 1920's and 30's when Churchill wrote prolifically. The rooms are light and airy and contain many portraits of Churchill himself as well as a magnificent collection of gifts, memorabilia, honors, medals, uniforms and books, his own paintings alongside family photographs and the famous Visitor Book recording those who visited Chartwell - which formed such a vital part of his long life. I liked his cigars in the ashtray on his desk waiting for him to return and smoke them. I had the distinct pleasure of visiting there a few years ago.. It was though Winston was about to walk around the corner at any time and greet you. This is a watercolor&. Sir Winston was a great painter&&. I hope he approves on my meager offerings &&&&&&&&&&&..
