Columbine Beauties

I was able to find some wild columbine flowers as well as several in gardens I passed while traveling in May. I found several varieties, including one that I believe was a new hybrid of the flower. I love the way the flower has such unusual shapes and beauty. I will be looking into growing my own when I get my garden planted next year in my new home in Colorado. I will definitely look into crossbreeding varieties and finding as many as I can to grow. I hope you like this painting I did of the summer sunset colored ones I found while passing a beautiful garden. I saw the original species the gardener started with, and the new variety they produced. As I do not know if they have registered the new variety yet, I will not give out the garden location or a photograph. I'd hate to spoil they're glory of announcing the breed. I will post later other varieties that I know that are available on the market or in the wild. I painted this using a digital drawing tablet, a Wacom and it's wireless stylus pen. It hooks to you computer and you hold it like a pen, brush, etc. You still have to do all the brushstrokes, so this is not a photo manipulation. It took hours of layering of paints, just doesn't require dry time or clean up. I can be more accurate with my skills because I can undo goofs, or rework areas. I save the work in stages so that I can rethink the work if I dislike what I did in an area. I used Corel Painter Canvas IX.5 to digitally paint this. I did not click a button to auto paint this. There are programs that can do it, but that takes all the challenge and fun out of it for me. Nor do I generally like the auto results they produce. I scroll over every inch of my work, enlarged areas to see what I am doing. This is also an advantage of digital painting. I included a close up shot of the work so you can see more of the details. More floral works to come soon. Enjoy all your own summer sunsets and garden beauties!
