In 1943 my dad took a picture of HIS dad, NYC artist, John E Cosgriff, doing a pastel mural for the SIMCO SHOE COMPANY'S SYNDICATED SHOE STORES.When he was done with the mural, he would spray lacquer over his pastel murals, using the reverse flow of a vacuum cleaner and a bowel of lacquer.
My dad,14 1/2 yrs old at the time, took the original photo and colored it with pencils.
My Grandpa passed away in 1968.The photo later survived a family house fire in 1969 and was delivered to me by email from my Dad.
I placed it in my PhotoImpression4.0 art software and enlarged it to clean it up with my clone, pencil, brush & tonal adjustors and I removed some imperfections from the fire and its age. Then I remounted the image onto a clean jpeg 5x7 blank giving it new borders after cropping out the old tattered one and here it is, a digital painting! I hope you like it, a little nostalgia..:)
This started as [#1] a pastel mural,by my grandpa, then became [#2] an old fashioned photo taken by my dad [#3] hand colored with pencils by my Dad [#4]digitally remastered by me.... so it is now a digital painting that has been worked on by 3 generations of artists from the same family and 65 years in the making!........:)

Ave What a wonderful story about your artist family & it's so beautiful how you tell the story & how you ended the story. I read it with tears in my eyes. Thank you for sharing it.Anonymous Guest 24 Feb 2011
